HP Slate 500 Tablet PC Delayed … but how long?

image

Just received the following email from HP:

“Due to high demand on the portable system you have selected we will not be able to fulfill the order from on hand stock, therefore we have routed your order to manufacturing for your product to be built. The average lead time to get these portables ready to ship may vary from 10 to 15 business days.”

Must not have been much “on hand stock” as I ordered the device the very first day (October 25) it became available. So this delay presumably impacted all, or almost all, orders.

10 to 15 business days indicates a 2 to 3 week delay. But I’m not sure that will be the delay. Here’s why. The email directs me to a link to check order status. That order status page indicates a ship date of November 14 and a delivery date of November 15. The original ship date was November 12. So only a 2 day delay … at least per the order status page … as of today.

Not sure what to make of this. I’ll keep you posted.

I ordered on 10/22, got the same email, but still have the 11/12 date showing in my order status. Still, my anxiety level is definitely up.

    • I feel your pain. Literally. The order status page still indicates a ship date of November 14 and a delivery date of November 15. But I really don’t believe it. I may call them but that probably will be a waste of time as the reps usually don’t know much.

The live rep I’ve been dealing with at SMB department says the delay is a combination of a huge demand and parts supply shortage (the later was not detailed, but I have read that Apple has a huge portion of the flash and LCD supply tied up for the iPad and it is delaying almost all slate competitors). I hope it’s more demand than supply, only because I want to see the Win7 slate market succeed big time. In any event, after not being able to pin down a specific delivery window (not even a specific date), my rep sent me an email stating that I would get a $100 credit on the sale – we’ll see what happens when they ship and I get my final invoice.

    • FWIW, my order status page still indicates a ship date of November 14 and a delivery date of November 15. But I really don’t believe it. I may call them like you did though. While the reps usually don’t know much, $100 is $100.

The rep i talked to said latest info was 4-6 week delays on my order which was the 25th also. That would put it between Nov. 22 to Dec. 6. We will see. Though i did not get offered a $100 so i might call back.

I too ordered on OCt 22. Have the same order status as others here which has not Been updated since nov 13. It states a ship date of nov 14 and delivery nov 15. ( didn’t receive it today ( nov 15 ))The last two blanks on the order status are empty (Shipment number and actual ship date). I’ve been waiting for this since Steve Balmer demo at CES. I played with a friends iPad when it first came out for about five minutes and decided that I already have one ( my iPhone). A pen based win platform is EXACTLY what I want/need. Spoke with a rep today and was told that upon shipment, my credit card will be credited $79.99.

My order keeps getting pushed back and now Im not getting it before Xmass. In some ways this was a big let down. On a positive note there will be one extra HP Slate 500 for someone else now.
